Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, this trip's perfect for reeling in some of Fort Myers' most sought-after inshore species. With our expert local captain at the helm, you'll be in prime position to land everything from hard-fighting redfish to acrobatic tarpon. What to Expect on the Water

As soon as we push off from the dock, you'll feel the excitement building. Our seasoned captain knows these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll waste no time getting to the honey holes. We provide all the gear you need – rods, reels, bait, and tackle – so you can focus on the fun part: catching fish. Light tackle fishing is the name of the game here, giving you that heart-pounding thrill when a big one hits. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, and ospreys as we navigate the beautiful backwaters and flats. And don't worry if you're new to fishing – our captain's always happy to share tips and tricks to help you land that trophy catch.

Techniques & Hotspots

We'll be using a mix of live bait and artificial lures, depending on what's biting. Expect to do some sight-casting in the shallows for redfish tailing in the grass, or work the mangrove edges for snook. We might drift the flats for sea trout or troll for Spanish mackerel if they're running. If you're up for a challenge, we can even try your luck with fly fishing. Some of our favorite spots include the waters around Sanibel Island, Pine Island Sound, and Estero Bay. Each trip is tailored to the conditions and what's biting, so you're always in for a fresh experience.

Target Species Breakdown

Redfish: These copper-colored bruisers are a Fort Myers staple. Known for their distinctive black spot near the tail, redfish put up a great fight and are a blast to catch on light tackle. They love to cruise the shallows, often revealing their location with their tails sticking out of the water as they feed. Fall and winter are prime times for big schools, but you can catch them year-round.

Sea Trout: Don't let the name fool you – these aren't your average trout. Speckled sea trout are actually part of the drum family and are known for their speckled patterns and delicate flavor. They're abundant in our grass flats and are perfect for anglers of all skill levels. Early mornings are often the best time to target these guys, making them ideal for our 4-hour AM trip.

Snook: If you're after a true Florida gamefish, snook are hard to beat. These sleek, powerful fish are known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. They love to hang around structure like mangrove roots and dock pilings. Spring and summer are peak seasons, but with our mild climate, you've got a shot at them year-round.

Spanish Mackerel: These speedsters are a blast to catch when they're running. Known for their blistering runs and sharp teeth, Spanish mackerel offer fast-paced action that'll keep you on your toes. They typically show up in our waters from fall through spring, often in large schools that can make for non-stop action.

Tarpon: Known as the "Silver King," tarpon are the ultimate trophy for many inshore anglers. These prehistoric-looking fish can grow over 100 pounds and are famous for their spectacular leaps and powerful fights. While they're most abundant from late spring through summer, we occasionally hook into them year-round. Landing a tarpon is a true feat – are you up for the challenge?

Learn more about the species

Redfish

Redfish are copper-colored bruisers with a signature black spot on their tail. Most inshore reds run 3-10 pounds, but bull reds over 20 pounds aren't uncommon. You'll find them tailing in shallow flats, around oyster bars, and near mangroves. They're active year-round but especially in fall when they school up. Anglers love redfish for their hard-pulling fights and excellent food quality. Live or cut bait works great, but sight-fishing for tailing reds with artificial lures is a thrill. A local tip: on super low tides, look for redfish concentrated in deeper potholes on the flats. They'll often stack up in these areas, giving you multiple shots at hookups.

Redfish

Sea Trout

Sea Trout, also called Speckled Trout, are a staple of inshore fishing. Most run 1-3 pounds, with gator trout pushing 5+ pounds. You'll find them over grass flats, around oyster bars, and in deeper holes during winter. They're active year-round but especially in spring and fall. Anglers love trout for their abundance, willingness to bite, and excellent taste on the table. Live shrimp under a popping cork is a classic tactic, but soft plastics and topwater lures can be deadly too. Here's a guide trick: when the water's clear, use more natural colors. In murky water, go with brighter lures to help fish locate your bait.

Sea Trout

Snook

Snook are ambush predators that love hanging around mangroves, docks, and other structure. They average 5-15 pounds but can reach over 40. You'll find them in backwaters, canals, and along beaches, especially near passes and inlets. Spring and fall are prime times as water temperatures change. Anglers prize snook for their challenging fight and acrobatic leaps. They're also excellent table fare, though highly regulated. Live bait like pilchards or pinfish works well, but artificials like jerkbaits and soft plastics can be very effective. Here's a local secret: on incoming tides, target snook right up against mangrove shorelines. They'll often be tucked up tight, waiting to ambush prey being swept in with the tide.

Snook

Spanish Mackerel

Spanish Mackerel are speedy swimmers that put up a great fight for their size. Most run 1-2 feet long and 2-4 pounds, though some can reach 15 pounds. Look for them in coastal waters, inlets, and bays, especially around structures like reefs or wrecks. They travel in large schools, so when you find one, you've likely found many. Spring and fall are peak seasons as they migrate. Anglers love targeting Spanish Mackerel for their fast action and tasty meat. To catch them, try trolling or casting small shiny lures like spoons that mimic their favorite baitfish. A local tip: when you see birds diving, that's often a good sign Spanish Mackerel are feeding on bait schools below. Move in quietly with your motor and cast beyond the activity, retrieving through the school.

Spanish Mackerel

Tarpon

Tarpon are the silver kings of saltwater - massive, prehistoric fish that can top 200 pounds. You'll find them rolling in passes, along beaches, and in backcountry areas. Spring and early summer are prime times as they migrate through. Anglers travel from all over to battle these giants, known for spectacular aerial displays and stamina-testing fights. While not typically kept for food, the thrill of the catch makes tarpon a bucket-list fish. Live bait like crabs or threadfin herring work well, but fly fishing for tarpon is the ultimate challenge. A local tip: when sight-fishing for tarpon, lead the fish by a good distance. They spook easily, so a well-placed cast ahead of their path is key.
